Bullet New Carers Mental Health Group for 2008

Many carers are at some risk of social isolation when they have to devote a lot of time to caring for someone. This isolation can be far worse for carers of people who suffer mental distress, because there is still a stigma about mental illness.

Joe Lewis from Gateshead Crossroads Caring for Carers and Janice Coulson from Gateshead Carers Asssociation have been talking to carers for people who have exprienced mental distress for some time. Many carers have said that they would appreciate the chance to meet others who have had similar experiences to them for a chat and a cup of tea or coffee, so a first get together has been arranged for the start of the New Year.

The Mental Health Carers Group will start at Gateshead Carers Association (11 Regent Terrace, Gateshead) on Thursday 10th January 2008 between 1pm and 3pm. There will be refreshments and a warm welcome for all mental health carers. For more information ring Joe Lewis on 01207 549 780 or Janice Coulson on 0191 490 0121.
