Gateshead Crossroads Caring for Carers provides support to carers through a variety of services. We provide practical support, information and advice.
Each individual service page will tell you how you can access support from that particular service. If you are unsure about which service you want to access, or if you just want some general information about what is available to you as a carer living in Gateshead then contact us! You can complete our online enquiry form, and we will get back to you within 48 hours.

This service provides support through trained Carer Support Workers who take over the caring role for a period of time, giving the carer a break.
This enables carers to have time to:
- relax
- rest or sleep
- have the home to themselves
- keep appointments
- go shopping
- have a break to see friends
- enjoy a hobby.
This service offers flexibility 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This service provides support for young people under the age of 18.
The Young Carers Service offers:
- time out activities
- one to one support
- youth clubs
- help with homework
- information
- help to access services.
This enables young carers to have time to make friends, have a break, visit new places, talk to someone about the problems they face, receive training and information to help them in their caring role: e.g. first aid, anger management.

This service provides practical assistance to carers with tasks they are unable to manage because of a lack of time, health problems, work/family commitments, or financial hardship. The service can help with:
- laundry and ironing
- general housework
- shopping, collecting benefits etc.
- transport
- dog walking
- support with paperwork, phone calls
- light gardening.

This service provides carers with:
- information
- emotional support, problem solving or just a listening ear
- help in accessing services, equipment or funding
- support in balancing their caring role with their own health needs or in managing activities such as work, learning and leisure.

This service provides support by:
- offering advice and support in claiming Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance and Carers Allowance
- providing benefits calculations
- promoting independence for carers and those they care for through improved access to benefits such as pension credit.

This service provides support to carers of people with mental health needs by:
- involving carers and representing their views on key planning groups within local mental health services.
- providing support, information and training for carers so that they can make their voices heard.
